A project at the Point Vicente Lighthouse has been funded by the generous support of the community through their donations. Window shades have been purchased and installed on all of the windows located in the Display Center/Museum and the office building directly adjacent to the lighthouse.

While we wait for federal and state permits & approvals for the necessary work at Point Vicente, this window shade project was brought to our attention by the USCG Auxiliary, the volunteer segment of the USCG that is tasked with maintaining the lighthouse and operating the monthly Open House events. Our mission is to assist the Auxiliary with the lighthouse, and funding the purchase of window shades accomplishes this objective. The window shades will reduce the amount of sunlight/UV light entering these buildings and help to:

  • keep the interior spaces of the buildings cooler
  • reduce energy costs
  • reduce significant fading on the objects in the Display Center/Museum

Funding this needed project would not have been possible without the generous support of the community, so a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed to our mission. We could not have done this without you. Shout out to USCG Auxiliarist Wendy Louttit and Scout Leader Jean Sheen for expertly installing all of the window shades in both buildings. On your next visit to the Point Vicente Lighthouse (Open Houses are the 2nd Saturday each month), be sure to check out the new shades!
