We wanted to provide you with a quick news update on our progress at the lighthouse, working with the U.S. Coast Guard, and putting plans together to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Point Vicente Lighthouse in 2026. That's right around the corner!
Our organization had our annual meeting with the USCG this week to update them on our progress as a non-profit organization, along with milestones we reached in the past year with fundraising, website and social media presence (check out our new Facebook page!), articles written about the lighthouse as well as our mission, and our ongoing efforts with public outreach (monthly presence at the Open House events every 2nd Saturday, presentations given to local charitable and history groups, meeting local officials from the surrounding neighborhoods). We've enjoyed talking with each and every one of you that has stopped by our table at the monthly Open Houses and we especially appreciate the community's overwhelming support for our mission to help restore this historic landmark that is turning 100 years old next year.
What's next? We are currently working with the USCG (both locally with Division and at District in Oakland) to obtain the necessary license and permit approvals to work on the lighthouse and its associated buildings. Navigating the federal and state permit processes can be both daunting and time-consuming, but the USCG and the USCG Auxiliary are up to the challenge and we are all looking forward to a continued positive relationship and collaboration to make this lighthouse restoration project successful.
Stayed tuned for future announcements regarding the celebrations planned for April and May next year in 2026. The Point Vicente Lighthouse turns 100 years old next year... that certainly deserves something special, doesn't it? More details in the coming months.
